NOGLI Neighborhood Development Initiative
The Neighborhood Development Initiative was created in 2000 by a group of residents concerned with the future of Greater Lauraville. This document was the foundation for the creation of the Neighborhoods of Greater Lauraville, Inc., and it still guides our day-to-day activities.
There are three main components to the program:
- Attracting new residents: Making Greater Lauraville a destination of choice. This would be accomplished through marketing the neighborhoods, working with local realtors, providing housing counseling, creating financial incentives, and assisting with intervention buying.
- Retaining existing residents: Stopping middle class flight to the suburbs. This includes creating rehab loan programs to assist existing homeowners and acting as a clearinghouse for information on other existing programs.
- Appearance: Addressing code enforcement and zoning issues. We would work with the City, residents and neighborhood associations to identify problem properties, and help them try to abate existing code violations.
